RSG SUMMARY

  • A planned merger with LakshmiKumaran was abandoned at the last minute in mid 2008. The aim was to combine one of the country’s top indirect tax practices with Vaish's leading direct tax practice. The merger did not go ahead and many lawyers commented that they were not surprised as the two firms' cultures are entirely dissimilar. The firm was established by Mr Vaish in 1971, but he no longer plays an active role at the firm. The tax practice is headed by managing partner Ajay Vohra in Delhi, and a smaller corporate practice is led by Bomi Daruwala in Mumbai. While it has excellent specialist credentials, Vaish Associates in one of the most traditional firms in terms of partnership that RSG assessed.
